What You'll Do

The ASNT Level III-Testing Engineer is responsible for developing, overseeing & executing test instructions for the purpose of demonstrating acceptable performance of equipment and systems, providing input to the development of and reviewing engineering issued specifications for applicable test requirements and are capable of identifying missing NDT related acceptance criteria. He/she interprets NDT related codes, standards, specifications and procedures for Helium Leak testing, designates and approves NDT methods, techniques and procedures to be used. He/she ensures testability of acceptance criteria, reviewing vendor submitted factory acceptance test (FAT) for adherence to specification required NDT test and performance requirements and then to attend/witness FAT testing as the test subject matter expert specialist. He/she assists in the development of project functional acceptance criteria (FAC) documents, develops test documents and performs functional testing on newly installed or modified SSCs to ensure equipment and systems meet the specified requirements, documenting the test results, producing documentation about his/her work, meeting with customers, other Test Personnel, and site construction to discuss issues/status, meeting with contractors and other staff to provide technical guidance, diagnosing faults and troubleshoot problems encountered during test activities. He/she will be responsible for directing support teams of craft and technicians, in test performance. He/she works with the Project Engineers in all facets of testing support during project execution and readiness activities, and participates in final system integration and validation to identify functional problems. He/she follows internal quality control standards, programs and the maintenance of reliability programs. He/she is expected to provide technical direction and leadership in mentoring and development of new Testing Technicians. He/she is responsible for, and must be capable of, training and examination of Level I and Level II personnel for qualification in those NDT methods for which are qualified and for endorsement of Limited Level III personnel. Travel is required.

This position requires certification in nondestructive testing (NDT) by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) and experience as a Level III Helium Leak detection inspector. Duties include, but not limited to:

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science in Engineering/Science/Information Technology discipline from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABE
  • Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
  • 3.0/4.0 minimum cumulative GPA for Bachelor degree
  • 3.3 minimum cumulative GPA for Master degree
  • 3.5 minimum cumulative GPA for PhD
  • In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.(Ref. DOE O 426.2)

Preferred Job Requirements

Candidate should meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1. Have obtained a degree in engineering or science from a college or university (four‐year curriculum, minimum), plus one additional year of experience beyond the Level II requirements in an assignment comparable to that of a Level II or Level III in Helium Leak testing, OR
  2. Have satisfactorily completed at least two years of technical training (engineering or science at a university, college, or technical school), plus two additional years of experience beyond the Level II requirements in an assignment comparable to that of a Level II or Level III in Helium Leak testing, OR
  3. Have four years of NDT experience beyond the Level II requirements in assignments at least comparable to that of a Level II or Level III in Helium Leak testing

Candidates with an active ASNT SNT‐TC‐1A, Level III certification in Helium Leak testing are eligible for Company qualification as a Level III in the same method. The Company will accept a non-ASNT Level III who can obtain an ASNT Level III within 6 of months of hire. Documented prior NDT-related education and/or prior qualification/certification is considered by the Company in determining evidence of qualification.

In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1-year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). Additional Preferred Skills would include:

  • Ability to provide frequent communication and interactions with variety of customers, both internal and external
  • Present information clearly and effectively through oral and written word
  • Knowledge of test programs, hands-on experience directing or performing component, system, integrated systems and process systems testing within nuclear facilities with a preferred knowledge in one of the following; manufacturing process equipment, nuclear industrial facility or nuclear power plant related systems
  • Good communication skills and interacting with engineering disciplines, production and operations personnel and providing management with requested testing updates
  • Capability to communicate and represent the Company with suppliers and vendors as well as be able to provide technical solutions or direction to problems encountered during vendor testing which require a high level of ingenuity, respect and credence
  • Ability to perform trouble shooting and evaluation of equipment or components to support completion of assigned projects and test activities
  • Knowledgeable in the use and application of industry standards
  • Ability to use MS Office. Experienced with specialized pressure change and helium leak testing is desired
  • Testing experience performing hands on equipment operation / testing including pressurized piping systems and electrical systems testing preferred
  • Naval and or civilian power plant systems operation desired
  • Knowledge of rigorous “conduct of operations” concepts or following procedures verbatim within the context of personnel safety desired
  • Testing experience in nuclear manufacturing facilities, process equipment, or power plant related systems or naval facilities, ships or manufacturing process
