Job Description
Summary:
Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Property Accountant is responsible for overseeing key financial operations related to the NVCH property portfolio. Core areas of responsibility include Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Financial Reporting, and support for the Year-End Audit process.
This role collaborates closely with the Property Management team to exchange, review, and verify financial data relevant to properties managed by Burbank Housing. The Property Accountant must possess a strong ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements, and provide support in the preparation of audit documentation and reporting as needed.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Post monthly rent and Subsidy & HUD payments
2. Deposit tenant checks, laundry, replacement reserve, and other checks
3. Process Move in/Move out/Unit transfers
4. Process NSF notice
5. Month-end AR reconciliation; TSD recons; adjust accordingly
6. Look over property receivables for errors; check property alerts
7. Process payable invoices for assigned properties; record electronic payments
8. Print association invoices and apply for association payments and updates
9. Property Taxes, Annual/Bi-Annual Payment for various agencies
10. Property Mgmt. & Acct Fee deposits, cutting checks
11. Produce and post-transfer checks from property cash accounts
12. Process Due to Due manual and online transfers
13. Property Reserve Transfers
14. Journal Entry reconciliations, and reclassifications
15. Mortgage reconciliations
16. Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
17. Compile monthly financial package (generated by Yardi software)
18. AOE Reports Yearly
19. Assist with End of Year 1099 process
20. Assist with end of Year Tax Return filing
21. Process End of year Audit Items
22. Assist property managers with their accounting questions and solve problems
23. Assist the Accounting Manager & Accounting Supervisor with projects when needed
Qualification Requirements:
The requirements listed above and in the summary are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
Job Knowledge/Skills:
Education and/or Experience:
Three (3) years’ work experience in the property bookkeeping or accounting field with an emphasis on accounts payable/receivable. Experience in property management organizations. A combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for practical experience. A Degree with an emphasis in Accounting or an Accounting Certificate is preferred.
Language Skills:
Reasoning Abilities:
Ability to interpret accounting reports, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Ability to collect data establish facts, investigate variances and discrepancies, draw valid conclusions, and make recommendations.
Other Skills and Abilities:
1. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
2. Working knowledge of standard software and systems: Adobe Pro, Windows XP, Word, and Outlook.
3. Working knowledge of Yardi accounting software is a huge plus.
