About the Role

The Production Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, integration, and optimization of manufacturing systems and processes. This role ensures seamless operation across equipment, people, materials, and technology to drive efficiency, quality, and scalability. The engineer plays a key role in implementing lean principles, data-driven decision-making, and smart manufacturing initiatives.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and improve end-to-end production systems, including material flow, layout, and process integration.
  • Analyze production performance data to identify system inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead the implementation of lean manufacturing principles, standard work, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Support factory automation and smart manufacturing technologies, including data collection and system monitoring tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, IT, Maintenance, Quality, Production) to ensure seamless integration of new systems and process changes.
  • Participate in new product introduction (NPI) and ensure production systems are ready for scale-up.
  • Develop metrics and dashboards to track system performance (OEE, throughput, takt time, etc.).
  • Optimize ERP/MES interface with production systems to ensure accurate scheduling, traceability, and reporting.
  • Ensure all systems comply with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing systems, operations engineering, or production process improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of production workflows, value stream mapping, and system-level thinking.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, Power BI) and simulation/modeling software (e.g., Arena, FlexSim).
  • Familiarity with MES, ERP, and manufacturing automation systems.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects and driving change in production environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt).
  • Experience with Industry 4.0 technologies (IoT, digital twins, predictive maintenance).
  • Background in discrete manufacturing or high-mix/low-volume production environments.
  • Experience in plant layout and systems integration for new or expanding facilities.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

  • Willing to, and able to frequently move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for various reasons.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to move about inside and outside of equipment, warehouse and office space and position oneself to work on the equipment.
  • Will frequently operate hand and power tools, computers and other office equipment.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to access high places on the equipment,Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel by vehicle or airplane, domestically.

What We Offer

The salary range for this role is $93,500-105,400 USD ; however, Packsize considers several factors when determining compensation when extending a job offer, including but not limited to, the role being offered, the associated responsibilities, the candidate's prior work experience, education/training, and any special skills.
