DESCRIPTION:

The Westside Vocal Music Program is seeking a piano accompanist for the vocal music ensembles of Westside Middle School. The accompanist provides musical accompaniment for several ensembles including seventh grade choir, eighth grade choir, and the show choir. In collaboration with the vocal music director, the goal of the accompanist will be to support student learning and foster a culture which places a value on musicianship, technique, and enjoyment of music.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB TASKS:

Accompany choirs during daily rehearsal schedule. Support Choirs in learning vocal parts Rehearse with soloists and small ensembles as needed Rehearse voice sectionals Record accompaniment tracks for independent study Maintain choral library Manage choir folders Organize costumes Enter attendance records General secretarial duties: copying, assembling mailings, etc. Chaperone students on trips Other duties as needed OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Advanced Piano Technique: Applicants should be skilled at playing notated accompaniments of all difficulty levels and styles including but not limited to: Classical, Jazz, Broadway, Pop, Latin Ability to read open score (four part choral music) and play parts in a variety of combinations as needed. Ability to accompany vocal warm ups Ability to read chords/lead sheets (occasionally needed) Advanced sight reading ability preferred Basic improvisation skills preferred HOURS: Available before school for rehearsals on M, W, F at 7:00 AM is required Available for musical rehearsals after school second semester is required Basic time commitment is 6-7 hours per day depending upon the schedule of classes. School hours are 8:00 AM to 3:15 PM and must be ready to begin on time for morning rehearsals and/or first period. The accompanist may stay until afternoon rehearsals are complete during certain times of the school year. Availability for extensive outside of school rehearsals, performances and competitions is expected. Some evening rehearsal times can change but will be communicated in advance.
