Director of Golf
University in Costa Mesa, California is looking for a Director of Golf.
Position Overview:
Provides strategic leadership and oversight of the university’s golf program. This role is responsible for student-athlete development, recruitment, coaching supervision, tournament planning, and aligning team culture with the university’s mission and values. The position ensures excellence both on the course and in the classroom, supporting students in achieving their academic and athletic goals. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Director of Golf supervises the Head Coach and ensures the program operates in full compliance with institutional policies, Pacific West Conference regulations, and NCAA Division II rules. The position is also responsible for promoting a culture of compliance and integrity within the program, maintaining current certifications in CPR/AED, first aid, and bloodborne pathogens, and being familiar with the university’s emergency medical procedures.
Duties:
• Supervise and develop head and assistant coaches.
• Develop a strong team culture to reflect the university’s mission and promote student development, team success, and athletic department goals.
• Promote individual spiritual growth and team participation in service, worship, and faith-based activities.
• Monitor and support academic success, integrity, and sportsmanship.
• Hire personnel within budget guidelines with proper clearance from the athletic director or designee.
• Foster a collegial environment in decision-making across campus and within the athletic department.
• Collaborate with the head coach to prepare budget proposals according to university guidelines.
• Work with the head coach to prepare athletic schedules and submit them for approval.
• Coordinate travel details with the head coach and athletic leadership within policies and budget constraints.
• Assist with purchases of equipment, supplies, travel, and recruiting expenses within the approved budget.
• Assume full responsibility for student-athletes’ conduct and appearance at home and away events.
• Ensure team transportation is safe, efficient, and minimizes disruption to academics.
• Partner with the assistant athletic director for communications regarding team photos and website updates.
• Encourage student-athletes to represent the university with professionalism and integrity.
• Report violations of university regulations to the athletic director and consult student affairs for discipline.
• Participate in coaching meetings, conference events, and complete necessary reports and ballots.
• Maintain accurate expense reports and reconcile P-card transactions by accounting deadlines.
Recruitment and Retention:
• Lead recruiting strategy in coordination with the head coach.
• Work closely with admissions, the head coach, and athletics staff to recruit prospective student-athletes.
• Understand and follow all recruitment policies set by the university, conference, and national governing body.
• Target recruits who align with the university’s academic, cultural, and faith-based expectations.
• Ensure recruiting activities are documented in the designated software system.
• Build relationships with high school, junior college, and club coaches.
• Achieve roster goals as defined by athletic leadership.
• Submit scholarship offers to the compliance administrator by the required deadline.
Public Relations and Fundraising:
• Lead fundraising and community engagement efforts in collaboration with the head coach.
• Partner with university advancement to meet fundraising targets for program development.
• Build relationships with community leaders, alumni, and donors.
• Organize and participate in local community service activities.
Compliance:
• Submit squad lists and travel party rosters to the compliance office before first practice.
• Inform athletes of eligibility rules and offer guidance for compliance.
• Review rules regularly with team members and reinforce a culture of compliance.
• Submit playing and practice seasons for approval and log athletic activities as required.
• Ensure proper procedures for team camps and clinics are followed.
• Understand and abide by NCAA DII, Pacific West Conference, and institutional rules.
• Attend professional development events to remain updated on compliance regulations.
• Carry out any additional duties as assigned by the director of athletics.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Two years’ experience in athletics department environment or the equivalent thereof preferred
CPR and First Aid Certified.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
Ability to work independently and prioritize diverse and specialized details and tasks.
Ability to handle complaints and assist in conflict management.
Absolute preservation of confidential records, financial data, and agreed upon conversations.
Ability to be flexible to changing conditions, needs, and job responsibilities.
A strong interest in seeing intercollegiate athletes succeed.
An understanding and sensitivity to FERPA laws as it pertains to student-athletes.
A working knowledge of NCAA rules, bylaws and philosophies.
Knowledge and acceptance of principles and philosophies of the university.
Excellent customer service: must be team-oriented, able to demonstrate exceptional communication abilities, both orally and in writing, and work with multiple audiences both externally and internally.
Highly motivated, organized, multitasked, and goal-orientated.

Compensation:
$18 – $22 per hour.
